Book Launch: ‘Memoirs of Don Sante Della Valentina’ – Wednesday 21st September

At 17.30 in the Sala dell’Albergo the official launch will take place of the Memoirs of Don Sante Della Valentina, based on a manuscript by the courageous Chaplain of San Rocco, who succeeded, during the dark days of Venice’s occupation by French troops, in defending the Scuola di San Rocco against the enforced closure to which, along with all the other Scuole, it had been condemned.
If the Scuola Grande is still alive and functioning today, it is in large part thanks to him!

After an official welcome from the Guardian Grando, Franco Posocco, we will hear of the life and work of Don Sante Della Valentina from:
Giuseppe Gullino, ex-Professor of History at the University of Padua who will outline the historical and cultural background of the time;
Mons. Gianni Bernardi, Vicar of San Lorenzo at Mestre, formerly in charge of the library at the Patriarchal Seminary of Venice, who will speak about the author’s life;
Doctor Emanuela Brusegan, the editor of the book, will will talk to us about the work itself and its uniqueness.

The volume being presented is entitled Memorie di Don Sante Della Valentina, transcribed by Dr. Emanuela Brusegan, and published in 2016 on behalf of our Confraternity by the Marcianum Press as part of the prestigious Anecdota Veneta Series

Entrance is free
